Watch this video in a new window Does Robotic Prostatectomy Cause More Impotence and Incontinence than Open Prostatectomy?

Description: A recent study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in October, 2009 that compared results for open vs. minimally invasive radical prostatectomy. The authors found that minimally invasive techniques (robotic and laparoscopic) for removing the prostate resulted in less blood loss and a shorter hospital stay but a greater incidence of impotence and incontinence. But does this study really justify those conclusions. This video critically assesses the study and provides a good take home message.
