Colon Cancer Screening Recommendations
Description: One in 20 Americans will develop cancer of the colon or rectum in their lifetime. Two recent international studies show strong evidence that, when found in its early stages, colorectal cancer is highly curable. In many cases, pre-cancerous polyps or growths can even be removed during the screening process, long before a patient can begin detecting symptoms. In this interview, Dr. Tomislav Dragovich, Medical Oncology and Hematology Section Chief for Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, describes current screening recommendations, including at what age patients should begin screening. He also discusses newer screening methods that may soon become available.
