Description: Dr. Sagar Lonial explains there are a number of factors that help determine whether someone has high vs. standard risk myeloma. One common way to help determine the level of risk is a fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) test which looks at the genetic components of the myeloma cells in the bone marrow to determine chromosome abnormalities at the time of diagnosis. Dr. Lonial also discusses the importance of examining the whole picture-- past and current treatments, what happened to the myeloma cells over time and how long treatments last.
