Description: In an update from the Myeloma 2014 workshop in Boston, program chair Dr. Ken Anderson shares his palpable excitement over the varied immune-based approaches showing promise for the treatment of multiple myeloma. Moving beyond the expanded use of monoclonal antibodies, He explains three newer approaches including epigenetics, vaccine therapy and the use of checkpoint inhibitors. Dr. Anderson describes a changing treatment paradigm in myeloma where the un-limiting of a patient's own immune system, combined with a base of immunomodulatory drugs, could prove to be the most effective, efficient one yet, even for patients with high-risk and relapsed disease.
