Description:
Jennifer S. Temel, MD of Mass General Hospital - Harvard Medical School discusses how involving palliative care earlier in the process makes patient twice as likely to discuss their end of life preferences. With the research she had done for the last 15 years, which involved palliative care specialist for patients with lung cancer, she found out that patients are more likely to discuss about end of life care. Recently, she finds out that when patients are seeing palliative care from the time they were diagnosed and throughout the course of their illness, they are twice as much open to discuss about their end of life preferences. Hence, patients receiving early palliative care can discuss more on hospital services earlier and overall health and better quality of death.
