The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center began offering 3-D mammography for breast cancer screening in 2012. 3-D mammography provides health care providers with a clearer image of the breast tissue, making it easier to catch cancer earlier. It’s able to do this because it takes multiple images of the breast tissue, while a traditional mammogram captures just one image of the breast tissue.

Basak Dogan, M.D., associate professor of diagnostic radiology and medical director of the Ben and Julie Rogers Breast Diagnostic Clinic, recommends that any woman who needs breast screening consider 3-D mammography.
